Thebacha Campus Continuing Education at Aurora College in Fort Smith is pleased to offer the Project Management Certificate program, in cooperation with TangleTree Enterprises Ltd. The program provides introductory and advanced training in project management. Successful completion of all 10 courses will help program graduates earn certification as Project Management Professionals (PMP) and Certified Associates in Project Management (CAPM) as designated by the Project Management Institute. Program Overview

 Learn to manage projects on time and within budget and scope. The science of project planning, scheduling, and controlling is a defined set of skills that can be developed through focused practice. Course materials include relevant forms and checklists you can take away for your own projects. This program consists of one three-day fundamentals course followed by nine one-day courses. You may take courses individually or as a group. 

There are several requirements to write the designation exam. This program meets the educational hours required to write the designation exam. Aurora College does not offer the exam.

Course:            Project Management Fundamentals (In person at Thebacha Campus)

Cost:                $650

Description:      This is the first course in the Project Management Certificate program, and is a prerequisite for the other nine courses. During this workshop you will examine project management from conceptualization through to final completion. You will learn how to set up an effective plan, apply project planning steps, develop the project plan and implement it, manage work in progress, monitor controls, and reporting status.

Course:            Managing Cultural Diversity In Projects (In person at Thebacha Campus)

Description:      This is the second course in the Project Management Certificate program. During this workshop you will learn to improve the way your project team accomplishes tasks, and enhance their interpersonal and problem-solving skills. You will also identify operating stereotypes and other obstacles to communication. Learn different cultures’ approaches to work, relationships, time, and exchange of information and how this affects attitudes and performance on the job.

Description:      This is the third course in the Project Management Certificate program. Stakeholder management is one of the most critical factors of project success. This course provides the project manager with an understanding of stakeholder management processes using proven tools and techniques for managing the stakeholders during the various phases of a project.

Description:      This is the fourth course in the Project Management Certificate program. In this course, you will learn to:

  • Use power, politics, and influence to motivate your team.

  • Select the right team members and balance resources between projects.

Description:      This is the sixth course in the Project Management Certificate program. In this course, you will learn to:

  • Establish a baseline from which to measure results.
  • Develop contingencies for “unknowns” which may impact your project.
  • Control the project scope and take measures to avoid “scope creep.’
  • Implement a simple change management process.
  • Apply techniques for shortening project duration.
  • Track cost, schedule and quality data.
  • Report project progress and status.
  • Apply strategies for getting back on track when a project goes “off the rails.”

Description:      This is the seventh course in the Project Management Certificate program. Running a successful project is more than just aligning your project team to project goals. It also requires a clear and conscious focus on aligning corollary team participants, contractors and subcontractors through contract management and administration.

Description:      This is the eighth course in the Project Management Certificate program. Meeting cost and time constraints within a project often compromises quality. This course explores how to maintain your quality standards through a balanced approach to quality time and cost. The focus is on developing and applying a quality framework that works for your own projects.

Description:      This is the ninth course in the Project Management Certificate program. Effective initiation processes are key to launching effective projects. This course explores specific tips and strategies you can implement during the preparation and start up phases.

Description:      This is the tenth and final course in the Project Management Certificate program. Individuals may be certified by the Project Management Institute (an internationally-recognized body of project management professionals), a comprehensive program that certifies individuals knowledge in the field of project management. This course provides an intensive review of the subject matter tested on the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam. You will improve your test-taking skills by completing Sample Exam questions and by discussing the rationale behind both correct and incorrect answers. This course will help you identify personal strengths and weaknesses in each of the PMBOK knowledge areas and develop a personal strategy for passing the exam.
