Adult Learning and Teaching Theory ADED 0117 (prerequisite – Elements of Instruction) – Online / Multi-Day

This course introduces learners to the main theories of adult learning and development and explores ways to implement theory into practice. Module 1 examines formal and informal contexts for adult learning and reviews a number of adult education movements in order to illustrate how context influences learning. Learners will also be introduced to global adult education and the concept of lifeline learning promoted by UNESCO.
Module 2 consists of a survey of adult theories of change and development with a focus on stage theories and the development of reasoning.
Module 3 reviews five main adult learning theories with a focus on how theory is developed and how it can inform practice.
