The Academic Council is the senior academic body of Aurora College and is part of the institutions tri-cameral governance structure.

The Academic Council was appointed in November, 2023 with 30 members – 27 voting and three non-voting – and is comprised of staff, faculty and student representatives. It will advise the Board of Governors, make recommendations on all academic matters, and build the College’s capacity to make academic decisions.

The creation of the Academic Council will help the College to meet quality assurance requirements connected to academic decisions and to ensure academic freedom. The Council is an interim step towards establishing a Senate as Aurora College transforms into a polytechnic university.

Voting membership is comprised of:

  • 14 elected faculty;
  • Three elected staff;
  • Three elected students;
  • Three ex-officio members;
  • Four members appointed by the College President.

The ex-officio members are the Vice-President Education & Training (Chair), Vice-President Community & Extensions (Vice Chair), and the Registrar.
