Inclusion in Early Learning and Child Care

Course description:

This course is designed to orient students to the field of education for children with exceptionalities, beginning with the historical and philosophical perspectives that influence contemporary inclusive programs. Topics will include early intervention, inclusion, legislation, and government policies and procedures. Emphasis will be placed on team and interdisciplinary approaches to child care and guidance, and administration and funding concerns. There will be an overview of the community resources available to lend support to the child, family and the educator. Collaboration with community services and advocating for children’s and families’ rights provides a framework for the course.
