Course description:
This course is designed to orient students to the field of education for children with special care and learning needs, beginning with the historical and philosophical perspectives that influence contemporary inclusive programs. Topics will include early intervention, inclusion, legislation, and government policies and procedures. Emphasis will be placed on team and interdisciplinary approaches to child care and guidance, administration and funding concerns. There will be an overview of the community resources available to lend support to the child, family and educator. Collaboration with community services and advocating for children’s and families’ rights provide a framework for the course.
