Course description:
This course examines the concepts and practical applications of emotional intelligence as it relates to an early childhood education learning environment. Students will explore the theory and practice of supporting young children in their emerging abilities to identify and solve challenges, communicate effectively with others, and resolve both intrapersonal and interpersonal conflicts. Emotional intelligence is the ability to successfully navigate three fundamental “self” skills: the ability to identify and name emotions (emotional awareness), the ability to understand those emotions and apply them to tasks, and the ability to manage emotions through regulation of self and others.
