Course description:
This course provides students with the opportunity to examine their own social location and how it has shaped their beliefs and values for practice in the field of early learning and child care. There is a strong focus on uncovering ones’ identity. Students will then have the opportunity to learn how determination and actions can help build capacities across Indigenous cultures, through the respectful exploration, communication, and appreciation of cultural similarities and differences. Students will also learn how early learning and child care can strengthen individuals, cultures, and communities and gain insight on how Indigenous cultural understandings and teachings can be incorporated into one’s daily practice. All course content is examined in the context of the Northwest Territories and its people.
