Course description:
In this course, students will examine how observations and assessments are used by educators to identify children’s skills, abilities and interests, to determine the effectiveness of early learning and child care programs and to plan effective curriculum. Students will examine and use various observational tools to facilitate assessment and planning. Observation strategies and documentation will be emphasized across the six developmental domains in early childhood. The course will also include the opportunity for students to observe young children using formal and informal assessment techniques to determine children’s strengths, and suggest play-based support activities.
