This Fund is for three-year residents of the Northwest Territories who are entering their second or subsequent year of study at the Yellowknife/North Slave Aurora College campus.

Available scholarship: $1,000

Sharon Morrison Memorial Indigenous Education Fund

This Fund is for 1-year residents of the Northwest Territories who self-identify with an Indigenous community pursuing post-secondary education in nursing (nurse practitioner, registered practical nurse, licensed practical nurse) or personal support work.

Available bursaries: 3 X $2,500

Gahcho Kué Mine Early Learning and Child Care Bursaries

 

Gahcho Kué Mine is awarding twelve $2,000 bursaries annually until 2030. The bursaries support part-time online certificate and diploma graduates living in the NWT who, because of their part-time status, are ineligible for government funding. Most participants are already working in childcare facilities or in the classroom as assistants in local schools.

These bursaries are part of a larger set of community-based programs that fall under Gahcho Kué Mine’s Building Forever plan. Launched in 2020, Building Forever aims to provide lasting benefits to host communities and includes commitments to protect the natural world, accelerate equal opportunity, partner for thriving communities, and lead ethical practices across industry.

Eligibility

  • Bursaries will be awarded to the top 12 students with the highest grades across graduates of the college’s part-time distance Early Learning and Child Care Program, determined by Grade Point Average at the completion of the year.

SixSurgery Scholarship

SixSurgery, a leader in cosmetic and plastic surgery, will award a  $1,000 scholarship to one deserving student who has demonstrated leadership in medical or health related fields. A winner will be selected according to their academic achievements, and their submission of a short essay or video presentation.

Participants must submit a 500-word essay or a 2-minute video presentation in response to the following question:

  • What will surgery look like in 2050?

Eligibility

The Six Surgery Scholarship is open to students pursuing a higher education who meet the following criteria:

  • You are currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in Canada or the United States at an undergraduate program related to medicine or healthcare
  • Your education will continue through the Spring 2023 semester
  • Must be a legal resident of Canada, United states or hold a valid student Visa
  • Must not be an employee of Toronto Cosmetic Surgery Institute or associated companies

Stantec Environment and Natural Resources Technology Scholarship

Stantec has established a scholarship for students attending the Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program at Aurora College.

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • The applicant must be enrolled fulltime in the Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program.
  • The applicant must demonstrate the ability to provide leadership or academic excellence through either a GPA of 3.0 (70% or higher) in your
    most recent year of College, or a letter of reference from your employer addressing your ability to provide leadership in your area of study.

Disbursement:

  • $1000 for a student enrolled in the Aurora College Environment and Natural Resources Technology Program
  • Bursary/Scholarships payable to a student will be initially applied to cover, if any, outstanding amounts due on their account
  • Awards will be determined jointly by Stantec and Aurora College.

SLR CONSULTING BURSARY FOR 2nd YEAR STUDENTS

DETAILS: This bursary is available to students who are enrolled in the 2nd year of the Environment Natural Resource Technology Program. Applicants must be residents of the Northwest Territories. First Nations, Inuit or Metis students will be given priority. Preference will be given to applicants who have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% in their first year of the program. Applicants who can clearly demonstrate their commitment to the field of Environmental and Natural Resource through involvement in related volunteer and/or paid work and/or hobbies are also preferred.
Applicants must submit:

  • a 150-250 word letter of interest describing why you have chosen the field of Environment and Natural Resources Technology as your area of study, your past or current involvement in this field and what you have done to demonstrate your commitment to this area
  • where possible, a reference letter from an employer (paid or voluntary), instructor, or trainer
  • a completed application form
  • a transcript showing completion of 1st year ENRTP

Fort Smith Day Care Society Bursary

Fort Smith Daycare Society Bursary

Value: $1,000
Deadline: December 2nd, 2021
Details: The Fort Smith Daycare Society has established a $1,000 bursary paid in $500 split segments during the Fall/Winter semesters

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be a Fort Smith, resident
  • The applicant must be enrolled in the Early Learning Child care or Early Childhood Development program at Aurora College
  • The recipient must detail in their statement letter how the bursary will support them financially in their academic pursuit
  • The recipient must have successfully completed the Fall semester and continued their enrolment to Winter term to receive the January portion

Disbursement:

  • $500 will be paid twice an academic year (December 15 & January 30)
    • Bursary/Scholarships payable to a student will be initially applied to cover, if any, outstanding amounts due to their account

NTPC Bursary Program

Deadline: September 30 — Value: $1000 per community serviced by NTPC

The NWT Power Corporation is dedicated to developing a skilled, committed and professional workforce and wants to encourage northern residents to further their education in order to develop a sustainable local workforce. The following bursary program is being offered to assist students with their post-secondary education in an effort to empower residents to attain their career aspirations.

A $1,000 bursary will be offered for post-secondary education in any field the Corporation employs. Preference will be given to those students furthering their education in fields the Corporation is having challenges recruiting. This bursary will be available to one student in every community the Corporation services or has a presence. It is open to all current post-secondary students who attended high school in the Northwest Territories.

Applicants must be enrolled in a field of study the Corporation employs, which may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Engineering, Technologies or Computer Science programs,
  • Business, Commerce or Accounting programs,
  • Health, Safety or Environmental programs, and
  • Various Trades.

In situations where more than one applicant per community has met the criteria for the bursary, the applicant enrolled in the field of study that is most challenging for the Corporation to recruit for will be given priority consideration.

The application deadline is September 30. Funds will be awarded via cheques mailed directly to the recipients or direct deposit.

Imperial Oil Scholarships – Sahtu Indigenous Scholarship Program

Deadline: September 15 — Value: $3500

Imperial’s Norman Wells operation offers these scholarships each year to Sahtu beneficiaries entering post-secondary studies. The award is designed to cover tuition, other compulsory fees, textbooks and supplies, while also assisting with living expenses during
the course of the academic year. The maximum amount of the award is $3,500 per year for college and technical schools and $4,500 per year for university.

The purpose of the scholarship program is to encourage and assist Sahtu beneficiaries to pursue undergraduate post-secondary studies in disciplines relevant to the petroleum industry and Imperial’s Norman Wells operation. In conjunction with other recruitment and on-the-job training programs, the Sahtu Indigenous Scholarship Program forms an important part of Imperial’s strategy for increasing the employment of Sahtu beneficiaries at Imperial’s Norman Wells operation.

Eligibility requirements: Be a Sahtu beneficiary; Maintain residency in the Northwest Territories; Enrolment in disciplines relevant to the Norman Wells operation will be considered a priority. Relevant disciplines include but are not limited to: engineering, geology, geophysics, accounting, computer science, business administration and petroleum technologies; Be registered as a full-time student in a recognized educational institution.
