PLGF 0102 – Safety, Tools, Equipment and Materials
(86hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on safety legislation, regulations and industry policy in the trades; climbing, lifting, rigging, and hoisting; hazardous material and fire protection; safe work practices; an introduction to rigging; hand and power tools; explosive actuated tools; iron pipe and fittings; copper tube, tubing and fittings; welded and flanged piping; plastic pipe and fittings; cast iron fibreglass, glass, lead, and historic piping; pipe hangers and valves.

720-102 – Plumbing Theory 1
(46hrs, non-credit)

This course provides introduction to plumbing (basic single family dwelling) and instruction on fixture traps, individual vents and roof terminals; floor drains, cleanouts, and manholes; plumbing fixtures; and the water supply system.

720-103 – Heating
(24hrs, non-credit)

This course provides introduction and definitions and instruction on boilers and trim; hot water heating systems, and heat emission units.

720-104 – Gas Theory
(34hrs, non-credit)

This course provides introduction to gasfitting fundamentals; and gasfitting codes and regulations, and instruction on properties of gases and principles of combustion; measurement and calculation of pressure drop; and natural draft burner adjustments and gas consumption.

 

720-105 – Math, Science 1 and Blueprint Reading
(50hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on applied mathematics; perimeters, areas, volumes, capacities, percentage and grade; temperature and heat; matter, density and relative density; pressure and atmosphere; transfer of heat and the effects of heat; and introduction to sketching and drawing; instruction on blueprint interpretation; single line drawing and blueprint interpretation; and interpretation of blueprint package.

720-201 – Plumbing Theory 2
(60hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on water distribution flow and water heaters; dual vents, flat vents, and residential storm drains; wet venting residential and commercial groups of fixtures; residential drainage, waste, and venting; circuit venting of residential groups of fixtures; plumbing fixtures, dishwashers, and garbage grinders; valve identification and servicing.

 

720-202 – Hydronic Heating
(42hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on boiler installation, operation and troubleshooting; installation procedures for terminal heating units and radiant heating panels; expansion control in hydronic heating; and basic hydronic system layout.

 

720-203 – Gasfitting
(46hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on pipe installation and gas line sizing regulation; low-pressure gas line sizing and installation; pressure regulators and orifices; pilots, pilot burners, thermocouples and thermopiles; an introduction to flues, draft hoods, and vent connections, and an introduction to vents and chimneys.

 

720-204 – Pipefitting and Welding
(36hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on welding safety, tools, and symbols; welding and cutting theory; extracted tee, brazing, tube bending and grooved pipe; bracket project; and pipefitting project.

 

720-205 – Math, Science 2 and Blueprint Reading
(56hrs, non-credit)

This course provides instruction on 45° offsets; pressure and flow of gases, buoyancy and water properties; levers and mechanical advantage; basic electricity and controls; single line pipe drawings; specifications and blueprint divisions; blueprint views and elevations; and interpretation of blueprint package.
