The Early Childhood Development Program is designed to train students to work with children from infancy to the age of twelve, with an emphasis placed on the preschool years. The program explores early childhood from a variety of holistic perspectives: developing relationships with children, child development, child guidance, interpersonal relations with colleagues, educational theories, designing and developing play based curriculum content, reflective practice, working with families, inclusive learning environments, collaborating with relevant community agencies and stakeholders, developing leadership and advocacy skills, and program management.
Early Childhood Development Certificate Program
Students will develop the basic skills required to enter the field of early childhood education in delivering high quality care and learning for children between the ages of zero and twelve. An introductory exploration of child development, play based learning, observation and assessment, communication will be completed.
Early Childhood Development Diploma Program
Students will develop the skills to work in collaboration with families, colleagues, and community agencies. The program will support you in developing strong critical thinking skills, creative program planning approaches focused on play, effective communication, and an ability to work collaboratively within a team. You will expand your knowledge about the developmental needs of children (physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language), and the skills necessary for planning and carrying out different types of programming strategies which can help children develop in those areas.
